HIGHLIGHTING PROVERBS

A perverse man sows strife: and a whisperer separates the best of friends. [Proverbs 16: 28] A troublemaker plants seeds of strife and gossip separates good friends.

A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good. [Proverbs 16:29] A violent man seeks to lead his neighbor astray, encouraging him to be a partner in unrighteousness.

He winks his eyes to devise perverse things; he purses his lips and brings about evil. [Proverbs 16:30] Facial expressions can have evil connotations and compressed lips can express the determination to do evil.

The silver haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness. [Proverbs 16:31] A righteous life promotes longevity----Principle: elderly folk should be honored for their wisdom, knowledge, and experience.

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. [Proverbs 16:32] A man who can control his temper is a greater hero than a military conqueror. Victory in the area of self-control is more difficult than in capturing a city. If you don’t believe it, try it!

The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD. [Proverbs 16:33] We may throw the dice, but the LORD determines how they fall. To put it another way; Make your motions and cast your votes, but God has the final say.

GOD IS COMPASSIONATE

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. [2 Corinthians 1:3]

Our God is a God of infinite compassion and kindness. He understands all that we go through and sympathizes with our weakness and our hurts. When we are troubled, He is sensitive to our predicament. He is not distant or far removed. He came to live among us and in us so that we can see how much He really cares. He comforts us when we need to be comforted. He understands and sympathizes with us in our pain and hurt. We can take all our troubles to Him and let the gentleness of His presence bring comfort and peace to our hearts.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. [Psalm 103:13]

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you. [Isaiah 54:10]

Because of the LORD’S great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. [Lamentations 3:22]

To the hurting, He is the great Physician. To the confused, He is the Light. To the lost, He is the Way. To the hungry, He is the Bread of Life. To the thirsty, He is the Water of Life. To the broken, He is the Balm of Gilead. [Calvin Miller]

GOD IS ETERNAL

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God. [Genesis 21:33]

God is eternal and infinite. He has no beginning and no end. He has no limits and He does not change. He sees the end from the beginning and He will work all things out for our good and His glory. He is LORD forever and has ruled from the beginning and will do so until the end of time and through all eternity. We are bound by time, but God is not bound by anything. The things that concern us now, He sees from the perspective of eternity. And that is why we need never worry, but can trust Him always and in all things.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. [1 Timothy 1:17]

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. [Psalm 90:2]

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. [Isaiah 40:28]

Once a man is united to God, how could he not live forever? [C. S. Lewis]
