APPLYING THE WORD

Believers should not react to trials as the world does. We are to live by faith---[Being sure of what we hope for--Hebrews 11:1]. When circumstances overwhelm you, shift your focus to the Lord. Read the Scriptures to find encouragement, and be reminded of what is yours in Christ---[Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, in Christ; for He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, to the praise of His glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. [Ephesians 1:3-8]

Remember; when we have gone into the furnace of affliction, His hand is on the thermostat and His eye is on the clock.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

I will charge my soul to believe and wait on Him, and will follow His providence, and not go before it, nor stay behind it. [Samuel Rutherford]

A man with God is always in the majority. [John Knox]

We must not treat God's Word like a buffet line in a restaurant, where we pick and choose what we like.

Seeking God's direction should be our first response to any given situation.

People who know the Word of God generally have an easier time discerning the will of God.

God calls us to obey Him in everything, regardless of the potential consequences.

Sometimes God reveals His grace by delivering us from the challenge or obstacle. At other times, God provides the grace to endure and grow through the hardships.

A true love of God must begin with a delight in His holiness. [Jonathan Edwards]

If we are not careful, we can become caught up in the enthusiasm of worship and actually forget who we are worshiping---our Holy God. Such carelessness can occur in any worship style or tradition.

A right relationship with God begins by recognizing God's holiness.

We honor God when we do His work His way.

To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God. [William Temple]

When you have Him you have all, but you have also lost all when you lose Him. Stay with Christ although your eyes do not see Him and your reason does not grasp Him. [Martin Luther]

The fruit of the Spirit does not pop out of believers through effort; Christians bear fruit through surrender. We take root in the Lord by meditating on His Word, praying, and serving. We reserve nothing for ourselves to control but fully rely upon Him. That's not passive living; it's an abiding life.

It's really hard to be offended at self-righteousness without being self-righteous.
