GOD IS WISE

To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. [Romans 16:27]

All knowledge and wisdom belong to God. He understands the deep things in life. He knows how the world was created, because He created it. He knows how you were formed in your mother’s womb, because He formed you. He has all the knowledge to sustain the universe. He has all insight, understanding, and wisdom. Only He has the knowledge to direct and govern our lives. He knows the beginning from the end. We should always trust Him to know what is best for us.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. [Proverbs 3:5-6]

By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding He set the heavens in place. [Proverbs 3:19]

The truly wise are those whose souls are in Christ. [St. Ambrose]

A DIVINE INTOLERANCE

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity. [Hebrews 1:9]

We live in an age where tolerance is exalted to a place it does not deserve. We have almost reached the point of tolerating anything and everything. God’s Word draws a very different picture however. In Hebrews 1:9 we see that God loved righteousness but hated iniquity. There is intolerance in the very character of God. He loves the sinner but hates the sin.

I believe it is possible to value tolerance so much that a clear-cut distinction between truth and error is impossible. When Paul finds that people are at work trying to destroy the Church of Jesus Christ, he is fearless and merciless in what he says, and we need to remember that this is exactly what our Lord did. When Jesus had something to say about the sins of the Scribes and Pharisees He said it bluntly! May I say, it is time for Christians today to be more outspoken.

HIGHLIGHTING PROVERBS

A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. [Proverbs 16:9] You can plan, push, purpose and plot, but God alone reserves the right to pick, place, and permit where He wants you to go.

Divination is on the lips of the king: His mouth must not transgress in judgment. [Proverbs 16:10] Because a king is a representative of God (Rom. 13:1) his edicts and decisions carry authority. Therefore, his mouth must not transgress in judgment. (i.e.) The mouth of a ruler will always be right when he speaks what God has spoken.

Honest weights and scales are the LORD’S: all the weights in the bag are His work. [Proverbs 16:11] Integrity is weighed in grams, millimeters, and ounces; little things done in the power of the Holy Spirit reap massive results.

It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness: for a throne is established by righteousness. [Proverbs 16:12] Lawful, orderly government must be sustained by righteousness. Where moral standards are abandoned, anarchy prevails.

GOD IS LIFE

The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. [Genesis 2:7]

God is life. God is the source of all life. It is only because of Him that everything else has life. We are alive because He is alive. The world exists only because He created it and sustains it through His life. The Bible teaches us that it is only as we come into a living relationship with God through Jesus Christ that we will begin to experience the fullness of life. It is only when we are rightly related to the source of life that we will truly live.

Through Him (Jesus Christ) all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. [John 1:3-4]

The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. [Job 33:4]

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]

When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. [Colossians 3:4]

Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity. [C.H. Spurgeon]
