A DIVINE INTOLERANCE
Thou hast
loved righteousness, and hated iniquity. [Hebrews 1:9]
We live in an age where tolerance is
exalted to a place it does not deserve. We have almost reached the point of
tolerating anything and everything. God’s Word draws a very different picture
however. In Hebrews 1:9 we see that God loved righteousness but hated iniquity.
There is intolerance in the very character of God. He loves the sinner but
hates the sin.
I believe it is possible to value
tolerance so much that a clear-cut distinction between truth and error is
impossible. When Paul finds that people are at work trying to destroy the
Church of Jesus Christ, he is fearless and merciless in what he says, and we
need to remember that this is exactly what our Lord did. When Jesus had
something to say about the sins of the Scribes and Pharisees He said it bluntly!
May I say, it is time for Christians today to be more outspoken.
